Its the Business

Instagram – Hashtags

If you’ve been living under a rock you are probably thinking, “What is a hashtag?” Well, originally it was a pound button on telephones. Now it is used to shout out messages on social media.

Trying to figure out how to properly use hashtags on Instagram can make or break your post. We use hashtags to spread the word about our businesses to our target market in hopes they will visit our page, love what they see, and join our community.

If you haven’t noticed, soap makers do not have a large presence in the Instagram world. But I am sure it will grow over time as Instagram gains more members. So, this is the best time to learn how to use your hashtags properly and engage with your customers!

Instagram allows 30 hashtags per post. If you have a private profile (I talked about this on my Instagram account) your hashtags will not appear in the category. Sorry. It is time to unlock your page. Why are you hiding from your customers? If you are a business trying to attract customers, your page should be opened like a store. This is another topic! Moving on! lol

The ongoing question about hashtags is, “How many hashtags should you use per post?” Ummm.. ALL OF THEM! It is free advertising for your business so why not?  Some people think its a desperate move, well.. I guess I will be desperate because as long as it is free to use 30 hashtags I am using all of them lol. So go ahead, be free. be a rebel like me. Use all of your hashtags!

In order to make your post look clean and sleek, post your hashtags in the comment section immediately after you post. This way your customer can read your content with little distraction from the hashtags.

How to pick your hashtags you ask? Well it is best to go by your niche. Since we are soap makers the first hashtag I will try is “Soapmaking” once you search for the hashtag you will see other hashtags at the top that are similar to your search. Write down all of your relevant hashtags to your niche. Also create your business name as a hashtag. If a customer searches for you on Instagram by hashtag, they will be able to find you.

Once you have written down all of your great niche hashtags, save them in your notepad on your phone. This way you will be able to just cut and paste them into your comment section of your post. Typing each hashtag out per post will be tiring and also you may mistype one of the hashtags and it will not post to the category correctly.

See ya next time!
